Origin: Formed in rural American homes, shaped by European heritage and frontier life.
American country draws on rural American homes: solid wooden furniture, check fabrics, patchwork quilts, crafts and collectibles. Spaces are warm and detail-rich, often with a hearth, a large kitchen and a porch. Colours lean to brick red, navy, soft yellow and wood brown.
In Vietnam, hearths and solid materials are hard to adopt literally. Use moisture-resistant engineered wood in warm tones, cotton check fabrics, wood-look tiles, wainscot panelling and lantern lights. Because the northern climate is humid, limit thick rugs and heavy fabrics in rooms with little sun, and keep warm colours moderate, using double-layer curtains against hot west light.
