Origin: Rooted in log houses of northern European and North American forest regions, built quickly from local timber.
The log cabin came from round-log houses in forested hill country, built from local timber to keep out the cold. Interiors have timber walls, exposed ceiling beams, a stone fireplace, leather seating and wool blankets. Today the cabin is also an image of holidays, quiet and escape from the city.
In Vietnam it suits resorts, homestays, hillside retreats or a leisure room inside a villa. Solid timber is vulnerable to humidity and termites, so use treated, kiln-dried wood, outdoor composite decking and moisture-resistant wood-grain boards inside. Good ventilation, wide eaves against rain and roof insulation against summer heat are essential.
