Origin: United States, late 19th to early 20th century, recalling colonial-era architecture.
Colonial Revival is the wave of American architecture that looked back to the colonial era, rising from the late 19th century. Houses have symmetrical facades, a prominent front door with columned portico and small hood, multi-pane sash windows, moderately pitched roofs and chimneys at each end. Colours are usually neutral, paired with contrasting shutters.
In Vietnam it suits villas and wider townhouses of about 6 to 8 metres that want a dignified yet restrained look. In Hai Phong, choose durable GRC or cast stone columns and mouldings instead of damp-prone plaster, anti-alkali and anti-mould exterior paint, firmly fixed tile roofs for storms, and openings wide enough for ventilation during humid spells.
