Origin: The 1960s, during the space race, with designers such as Eero Aarnio, Verner Panton and Pierre Cardin
Space Age design thrived in the 1960s as people turned toward space. Moulded plastic, fibreglass and shiny metal made seamless, rounded furniture possible, such as Eero Aarnio Ball chair of 1963 or the one-piece plastic chairs of Verner Panton.
In Vietnam, use it on a few large items: a pod chair, round pendants, curved cabinets, a softly curved ceiling. Pick composite plastics, engineered stone and gloss finishes that wipe clean for the humid season. A glossy white base reflects light, but on west-facing sides reduce shiny surfaces near windows to avoid glare.
