Origin: Roughly 1945–1969, mainly in the United States and Scandinavia after the Second World War
Mid-century Modern is the look of roughly 1945–1969 in the US and Scandinavia, when designers used new techniques such as moulded plywood, plastics and fibreglass to make light, beautiful, mass-producible furniture, many pieces still in production. It is warm and optimistic: honey-toned teak and walnut, tapered legs, organic curves and accents of burnt orange, mustard and teal on neutral walls. In Vietnam it suits design-loving young owners in apartments and townhouses, balanced with warm white walls so it never looks dated.
