Origin: The design style of the 1980s worldwide, revived in recent years.
Eighties retro is the name for a revival of 1980s design: strong colours such as pink, aqua and purple, geometric shapes, glossy glass and chrome surfaces, neon lights and checker or zigzag patterns. The mood is lively, playful and deliberately over the top. It is usually used as an accent in a living room, entertainment room or café rather than across a whole home.
In Vietnam, express it with one strong colour wall, LED neon lights, blocky chairs and a geometric rug. LED neon is safer and cheaper to run than glass-tube neon. In humid coastal areas, humidity tarnishes plated metal quickly, so wipe it dry; avoid covering the entire house in bright colour because it tires the eyes over time. Pick one or two rooms to carry the idea.
