Origin: Developed with modelling and design-scripting software from the late 20th century; Patrik Schumacher coined the term Parametricism in the 2000s
Parametric design uses algorithms to control form: change one parameter and the whole surface responds. Designers can generate louvres, screens and ceilings whose density and curvature vary continuously. Zaha Hadid Architects and Patrik Schumacher are names associated with the approach.
In Vietnam, parametric design usually appears as aluminium louvre façades, decorative screens, undulating ceilings or curved cabinets. CNC cutting and 3D printing allow precision but raise cost. Choose powder-coated aluminium, moisture-resistant boards or composites; parametric louvres can also shade west sun and boost ventilation when positioned well. Always confirm cost and lead time with the fabricator before committing to the design.
