Origin: Britain in the reign of Queen Victoria (1837–1901), blending many revival styles
The Victorian style belongs to the reign of Queen Victoria in Britain (1837–1901), when industrialisation grew the middle class and its appetite for decorated homes. It blends many revivals, including Gothic, Classical and Italianate. Interiors are full and layered: patterned wallpaper, heavy curtains, rugs, dark timber, collections and plants.
In Vietnam, a lighter version keeps a few signature elements: floral wallpaper on one wall, buttoned velvet seating, dark cabinets, multi-pane windows and patterned floor tiles. It suits multi-storey townhouses and small villas. In the humid climate, avoid paper on external or damp walls; use patterned paint or moisture-resistant vinyl, and prefer washable fabrics over thick rugs that hold moisture.
