Origin: An aesthetic spread through social media in the late 2010s, prominent around 2020, inspired by old libraries and universities
Dark Academia is an aesthetic inspired by old universities, libraries, literature and the Gothic. Deep browns, moss green, wine red, dark timber, books and antiques create a hushed space for reading and thinking. It is more an aesthetic trend than a formal architectural school with a documented history.
In Vietnam, apply it to a study, library or small living room. Use dark-grain moisture-resistant boards, deep paint colours and thick but breathable curtains. Books and old objects fear damp, so use closed cabinets, dehumidifiers and air-conditioning. West-facing rooms should have double curtains for darkness and heat insulation.
