Origin: Began in Italy (Florence) in the 14th–15th centuries and spread across Europe by the 16th
The Renaissance began in Italy, starting in Florence in the 14th–15th centuries, when architects such as Brunelleschi and Alberti revived the classical Greek and Roman language. Buildings stress balance, measured proportion, columns, round arches, domes and clear layered façades. Interiors favour solid carved timber, wall paintings, rugs and warm earth colours.
In Vietnam, Renaissance thinking works best when restrained: symmetrical layouts, slim columns or pilasters, round-arched doors, earth-toned walls, stone or tile floors and moderately carved cabinets. It suits villas and townhouses with an entrance hall. The humid climate calls for moisture-treated timber and stone; use honed or non-slip stone in damp areas and well-dried timber to prevent warping.
