Origin: A contemporary style inspired by homes along the Mediterranean, simplifying traditional detail.
Modern Mediterranean draws on seaside homes of the Mediterranean with white lime-plaster walls, arched doorways, terracotta tiles and abundant light, but simplifies the ornate detail. Lines are soft, arches appear on doors, recessed niches or passages, plaster surfaces are lightly smooth, and furniture is simple and earthy. The palette is bright and warm, with sea blue or olive green as accents.
In Vietnam the style fits well because the climate is hot and sunny. Plastered walls painted white or beige, arches for doors and wall niches, and terracotta or terracotta-effect tiles for floors and kitchens. In humid coastal areas, pay attention to waterproofing and moss resistance on exterior plaster, and shade western sun with eaves. Olive trees and herbs in ceramic pots help complete the mood.
